Pomellato’s New Collection Deserves Your Attention

The prestigious jewellery house Pomellato is once again teaming up with the Venetian Heritage Foundation for a project that promises to shine the spotlight on one of Venice’s cultural treasures, the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro museum. Under the name “Light and Reflections”, this project financed by Pomellato aims to illuminate the magnificent marble facade of the Ca’ d’Oro building, located on the banks of the Grand Canal in Venice.

Preserving Venetian Heritage

The Ca’ d’Oro is an emblematic Gothic-style palace, once partially gilded, hence its nickname “house of gold”. Today it houses the state museum Galleria Giorgio Franchetti alla Ca’ d’Oro, managed by the Direzione regionale Musei Veneto, under the Italian Ministry of Culture. This ambitious project to illuminate the facade will recall the past splendour of this palace and highlight its rich history.

Light and Reflections’ Illuminate
Ca’ d’Oro’s Façade

The ‘Light and Reflections’ project was jointly led by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the Venetian Heritage Foundation. It is focused on creating a sustainable and environmentally friendly night lighting system specifically designed to enhance the polychrome marble of the Gothic facade. This exterior lighting system, developed by Erco, a company specializing in sustainable architectural lighting using LED technology, will bring out the finesse of the marble structure while evoking the gilding of yesteryear, thus restoring all its shine at the facade of the Ca’ d’Oro.

Toto Bergamo Rossi, director of the Venetian Heritage Foundation, highlighted the importance of this collaboration: “This is our third collaboration with Pomellato and as always, it concerns the enhancement of a masterpiece work of the cultural heritage of Venice. We are grateful to be able to count on the unfailing support of the Maison, with which we share a passion for the preservation of the arts. This lighting project for the facade of the Ca’ d’Oro palace is the result of a unique historical and architectural study that takes into account the perforations, volumes and colours of the facade, making it the first project of this type for a palazzo overlooking the Grand Canal. The lighting of the facade is part of a larger project of total renovation of the Galleria Giorgio Franchetti museum in Ca’ d’Oro, supported by the Venetian Heritage foundation.”

Pomellato, as the ideal partner for this project, is known for its passion for preserving Italy’s artisanal and artistic heritage. Records reveal that Matteo Raverti, the Italian architect and sculptor who oversaw the construction of the Ca’ d’Oro building in the 15th century, also worked on the Duomo of Milan, strengthening the links between the cities of Milan and Venice as well as the shared architectural history of the two cities, a source of inspiration for the Pomellato brand and its creations.

Pomellato’s Dazzling Venetian Dream

To mark this collaboration and celebrate the “Light and Reflections” project, Pomellato created the Venetian Dream necklace. This jewel is inspired by the hypnotic play of light that emanates from the building. The ornamental motifs of the facade, including the quatrefoil openings, have been interpreted and reduced to three geometric shapes that make up the rose gold pendant. The irregular silhouettes of seven fancy-cut diamonds in a line express the exceptional character of the place where the water of the Grand Canal meets the symmetry of the building. The chain is set with more than 4,000 diamonds, giving it lightness and a shine reminiscent of the dreamlike reflections of the Venetian urban landscape.
