Dark Glamour:
20 Natural Black Diamonds to Shop this Spooky Season

Shoppable natural black diamond jewels are perfect for embracing the season.

Black diamonds are one of the earth’s most beautiful natural phenomenons. According to GIA, the natural black diamond gets its deep hue from “minute dark crystals or clouds of graphite, magnetite, hematite or native iron.” Natural black diamonds are one of the rarest cosmic wonders, said to have formed 3.8 billion years ago. Some of the most famous black diamonds include The Enigma, which weighs in at 555.55 carats and the Black Orlov, the seventh largest natural black diamond in the world, known for its scandalous history.

Most recently, it-girl Gabbriette Bechtel sparked a moment for natural black diamond engagement rings with her engagement to the 1975 singer, Matty Healy.

Before Bechtel’s natural black diamond engagement ring was Carrie Bradshaw‘s. Played by Sarah Jessica Parker in the iconic Sex in the City, Bradshaw received a long-awaited 5-carat natural black diamond ring from Mr. Big, who said, “Because you are not like anyone else.” The ring was created by Parker and costume designer Patricia Field in collaboration with jewelry designer Itay Malkin.

Natural black diamond jewelry has been long celebrated in the industry and has adorned our favorite celebrities on the red carpets. Lorraine Schwartz has been known to bejewel celebrities with natural black diamonds, from Beyoncé’s at the 2014 Met Gala to Lady Gaga at the 2018 Grammy Awards. Most recently, Camila Cabello stepped out for the 2024 VMAs in an epic stack of natural black diamonds from Loree Rodkin.
