De Beers Diamond Jewels Light Up the Screen in Disney’s New Movie “Cruella”
The Cruella de Vil origin story features De Beers jewelry pieces that are ready for their close-up.
Emma Stone and Emma Thompson aren’t the only stars shining bright in Disney’s new live-action film, Cruella. The movie, an origin story about the early days of the fashionable and feared 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella de Vil, features a slew of jaw-dropping diamond jewelry pieces from De Beers that help to bring the film’s dramatic costumes to life.
British punk rock glam reigns supreme in the film, which follows a young Cruella (played by Emma Stone) in 1970s London as she tries to make a name for herself in the fashion world under the watchful eye of legendary designer, Baroness Von Hellman (played by Emma Thompson). The De Beers diamond pieces are prominent in the wardrobe of Baroness Von Hellman and include high jewelry stunners like the Arpeggia five-line necklace and three-line earrings in white gold, both arranged with round diamonds on lines of micropavé.
Other diamond jewelry featured in the Cruella include an eye-catching, modern take on the line necklace with the Diamond Legends by De Beers Cupid necklace, boasting a line princess-cut diamonds and a row of marquise-shaped diamonds that form the shape of Cupid’s wings. Tchaikovsky gets a nod with a white and yellow gold Swan Lake necklace, and the Assana necklace is inspired by the fluidity of water.
For two-time Academy Award winning costume designer Jenny Beavan who won Oscars for her work on A Room With A View and Mad Max: Fury Road, only sophisticated diamonds would do for outfitting the film’s main characters. “The Baroness needed serious accessories to match her style of dressing, so it was wonderful to use the elegance of De Beers diamonds to complement her red carpet outfit,” Beavan said in a press release about Disney’s use of De Beers high jewelry diamond pieces in the film.
Disney’s Cruella premieres in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access on May 28.
