Messika and Bucherer Collaborate on An Exclusive New Collection

Jewelry juggernauts, Messika and Bucherer have teamed up on a bold new collection, worthy of an Egyptian queen.

Titans of the jewelry industry, Messika and Bucherer know how to make a sparkling splash, unveiling an exciting and exclusive collaboration. The world’s leading watch and jewelry retailer, Bucherer has called upon the creative prowess of Messika Paris founder and artistic director, Valérie Messika to design two new collections, entitled “Lucky Move” and the high jewelry assortment, “Move Iconica.”

While the two Maisons have been close partners for many years, the Swiss retailer signaled their utmost trust and confidence in Messika, handing her the reins and giving her carte blanche to design the 12 special edition pieces. “Bucherer is very important, long-term partner for Messika and we are excited to be able to offer this exclusive collection to the Bucherer customer,” Messika tells Only Natural Diamonds. “Bucherer and Messika share many core values, including the desire for continued excellence and craftsmanship, so it has felt like a very natural and authentic partnership from the very start.”

She continues, “Having the opportunity to design a collection for the world’s leading jewelry retailer has been a very special experience for me. The team gave me totally free rein on the design, so I was really able to be inventive, and have fun to create something that felt both unique and iconically Messika.”

Infused with bright and resplendent colors, the collection is swathed in natural diamonds while bolstering the vibrancy of fuchsia-hued lepidolite – sometimes referred to as the “peace stone” – and the tranquil turquoise pigment of semi-precious gemstone, amazonite.

As the saying goes, there’s a first time for everything, and this collection marks the first time Bucherer has ever featured amazonite or lepidolite in its 136-year history. Embodying luck, peace and serenity, the designer selected these fine stones for their special auras. “These stones have unique shades of color,” says Messika. “Always different, they seem to be in perpetual motion. Each piece of jewelry is unique due to the stone chosen.”

There’s always room for a pop of color, but classic natural diamonds hold a special place in Messika’s heart and design ethos. “I always work with natural diamonds,” she explains. “And what I love most about this collection is the contrast between the pure shine of the diamonds against the colored stones. Through my designs, I want to reinvent the way that people perceive diamond jewelry and how it should be worn. I want to create jewelry that brings self-confidence to anyone who wears it and I feel these bright and bold designs do just that.”

She says, “For this new collection, I worked with two stones for the first time, amazonite and lepidolite, which I have long admired for their unique colors. I think combining classic natural diamonds with these unique stones brings a character and modernity to the jewelry encouraging a feeling of playfulness and individuality which is very important to me.”

Drawing inspiration from the gilded baubles and piles of jewelry from mighty queens like Cleopatra and Nefertiti for the Move Iconica collection, Messika made sure to seamlessly incorporate a contemporary flair to her designs while calling on a treasure trove of ancient Egyptian references.

“Ancient Egypt placed a high significance on the use of colors and what they represented,” she explains. “With polychromatic finishing and painted decorations, the Egyptians were masters in the art of combining colors which highlights the symbolism and spiritual inspirations in ancient Egyptian art. In this collection we combine architectural lines, geometric shapes, and colored stones to create pieces that are subtle yet powerful.”

Ancient Egyptian culture has been a consistent source of inspiration for the jeweler. As a child, the designer was obsessed with Cleopatra—specifically Elizabeth Taylor’s portrayal of the iconic queen. Worthy of a pharaoh, her Akh-Ba-Ka necklace from the 2022 high jewelry collection incoporated all of the stones cut from a 110-carat rough diamond discovered in Botswana by Lucara.

This collection, rendered in white gold, yellow gold, or rose gold, hypnotic natural diamonds and rich fine stones, make for a timeless elegance in swinging medallions, statement-making collars, bracelets, earrings, and more.

With this new collection, you can “be blissful in amazonite,” “be confident in lepidolite,” and “be powerful in natural diamonds.” According to Messika, “Diamonds can help you to feel uplifted, confident and beautiful and it these are feelings that I hope anyone who wears a piece of Messika jewelry experiences.”
