Tiffany & Co’s Landmark Opens on Fifth Avenue, Sparkling In Diamonds
The store opened with a star-studded fetè and ribbon cutting ceremony with brand ambassador Gal Gadot.
“The day has come. Standing here at the corner of 57th Street and Fifth Avenue, in the heart of New York City it goes to show the amazing connection that Tiffany has with this unbelievable city,” so says Gal Gadot, Tiffany & Co. global ambassador while cutting the Tiffany Blue ribbon to commemorate the opening of the Landmark store. The actress spoke while decked in natural diamond chains and rings from the brand’s signature Hardwear and T T1 collections alongside Elsa Peretti Diamonds by the Yard, reinforcing the importance of the legacy designs alongside the newer launches and most importantly the connection between Tiffany and natural diamonds.
This is the first full scale renovation of the space since the doors opened and an exercise in thoughtful interpretation of heritage. No inch of the space remains untouched but echoes of the past ring through every aesthetic decision. Alexandre Arnault, Executive Vice President of Product and Communications at Tiffany & Co explains, “We tried our best to keep the outside as true to what it was when the store was founded in 1940 and we changed everything inside…it’s [now] more than a store, it’s really a landmark. And it’s an art gallery, an exhibition space, it’s several restaurants and private clubs. It’s many things all at once that we’ve put under the same roof.”
The real jewel in the crown for The Landmark is the newly reset Tiffany Diamond. For the momentous occasion, Nathalie Verdeille, Chief Artistic Officer, Jewelry and High Jewelry reimagined the setting for the 128.54-carat cushion cut Fancy Yellow natural diamond referencing the work of Jean Schlumberger and the iconic and celebrity favorite, Bird on a Rock brooch. She says of the effort that, “Thirty years ago, we set the diamond in the Bird on a Rock for the Jean Schlumberger Paris retrospective. Today the Tiffany Diamond and the Bird on a Rock meet again for a new love story full of liberty and joie de vivre.” Joy indeed, the setting captures the motion of flight with five birds pave set in diamonds circling the storied center stone. Tiffany & Co CEO, Anthony Ledru says, “There is no better design to uplift the Tiffany Diamond than the Bird on a Rock, the ultimate icon of Tiffany. Our new masterpiece brings Schlumberger’s creation to life unlike ever before.”
There is sure to be life filling the store and celebrating this momentous resetting come Friday when the doors open to the public. In fact, there are lines of New Yorkers and non-New Yorkers alike, hoping to get a glimpse of the sparkling diamonds or maybe hotter-than-hot K-Pop band BTS which has been spotted out front several times since Wednesday.
