Natural Diamond Jewellery Took Centre Stage At The 93rd Annual Academy Awards
The diamonds were out in full force, a sign that red carpets are back, open — and they mean business.
Our last semblance of normality was the 92nd Annual Academy Awards in February 2020. The world was thrown into a tizzy right after and a crazy year ensued. Imagine our unbridled joy, for here we are again, celebrating the biggest night in cinema. After 365 days of sweatpants, we were finally reminded that glamour will always be here to stay. From head turning fashion moments to diamonds you can spot from Mars, the 93rd Annual Academy Awards had it all.
The red carpet has returned with a vengeance and so have the jewels—more bold, more bright, more fierce. Here’s our line up of the night’s most dazzling diamonds and boy, you’re in for a treat.
Regina King
We’re letting you in on a little secret—Regina King is an angel descended from heaven, complete with Louis Vuitton metallic wings. Her custom made gown, which fit like a glove, definitely proved to be a fan favourite online. Modern jewels from Forevermark further elevated the look. Multiple diamond earrings? Check. Classic cluster bracelet? Check. Rings for every day of the week (almost)? Check.
Amanda Seyfried
As a suitable ode to Mank (set in 1930s-era Hollywood), the film she was nominated for, Amanda Seyfried brought heaps of old Hollywood glamour to the carpet. A custom hibiscus red Giorgio Armani Privé tulle gown was enough to stop us in our tracks. But what took our breath away was her Forevermark gems—yellow diamond drop earrings suitable for royalty, dazzling bangles and a radiant diamond ring. Seyfried seemed to agree, “We loved the simple strength of the natural yellow diamonds and think they stand out so beautifully against the grandness of the red gown. The clarity of these gems truly reflects the importance of this moment to me!”
Zendaya
We let out a collective gasp when we saw Zendaya strut down the red carpet in a stunning custom Valentino gown. While the dress spelled drama, so did her jewels—we swear you could see the dazzle from outer space. $6 million dollars worth of Bulgari jewels sat pretty on her, making her the first to debut a necklace from the brand’s upcoming jewellery collection Magnifica. The highlight of the piece was the six-carat cushion-cut yellow diamond featured up front and centre. The dazzle however, didn’t end there—she also sported matching teardrop earrings and two beautiful diamond rings.
Viola Davis
Besides being nominated for Best Actress in a leading role for Ma Rainey, Viola Davis was also competing for the best-dressed attendee on Oscars night. She wore a custom made Alexander McQueen embroidered appliqué dress with a circular gathered chiffon skirt to the red carpet paired with statement Forevermark earrings, bangles and a ring. Said maverick stylist Elizabeth Stewart on her look, “Viola’s Oscars dress stood out for its intricate open weaving and we wanted to echo that in her jewelry. I knew that Forevermark had the perfect diamond pieces that I wanted to try. Paired with her white dress, the simplicity of beautiful natural diamonds created an incredibly special moment.”
Reese Witherspoon
We love a classic red gown plus diamonds combo and Reese Witherspoon didn’t disappoint. One of the presenters at the 93rd Annual Academy Awards, the actress donned a pleated silk georgette creation from Dior’s AW21 collection. That shade of red calls for statement sparklers—chandelier earrings from Bulgari that are sure to turn (several) heads. A diamond encrusted cuff and rings topped off the look for the perfect finish.
Vanessa Kirby
Vanessa Kirby in custom Gucci is what our dreams are made of. The gentle hue of the silk strapless gown was offset with a rather dramatic train. The ‘Pieces of a Woman’ star proved to be a Cartier loyalist sporting a necklace of over 1100 diamonds totaling a whopping 27.45 carats! An interesting detail? She chose to wear the necklace backwards as her own special touch. Besides that, her look was bare of any jewels, letting the one standout piece do all the talking.
Maria Bakalova
Best Supporting Actress nominee Maria Bakalova showed up to the Oscars looking positively fairy-like in a crystal encrusted Louis Vuitton gown. There was no holding back on the jewels—the more drama the better seemed to be the key phrase. She chose a classic diamond necklace paired with pink and white diamond earrings and a dazzling ring from Moussaieff Jewellers—all equally romantic as her ensemble.
Andra Day
Andra Day’s red carpet style is reminiscent of her personality—pathbreaking. Bold cut-outs, a high slit and beautifully draped metal mesh came together in this Vera Wang number. The Oscar-nominated actress opted for equally alluring jewels from Tiffany & Co—singular string style diamond earrings featuring two square emerald-cut yellow diamonds. The look was topped off with two bracelets, one platinum and one 18K yellow gold with over 465 diamonds bringing her bling total to just under $2 million. Phew..
